This poster presents some of the composers of the last fifteen hundred years or so.
Here they are presented on a timeline.
We begin around the year 540 with San Gregorio Magno.
He is said to have lived in Rome from 540 until 602.
He reformed the music of the Roman - Catholic Church.
His compositions focused on male voices singing a cappella in Latin.
This form of song became known as Gregorian chant.
We end with Karlheinz Stockhausen. This German composer was born in 1928. He was significantly involved in the progression of contemporary music after 1945.
His works extend from austere serial, instrumental, and electronic compositions to the musical improvisations of later years.
Between these two you will find a wealth of names, most of which you will recognise.
For example, Orlando Di Lassio who composed more than 2000 works; and one representative of the early epoch who should not be disregarded is Francis of Assisi.
Just to mention some more; Antonio Vivaldi, quite a few Bachs, Boccherini, W.A.Mozart, Niccolo Paganini, Smetana, Ravel, Piccola.....
